DAASV and Hamlet on Alcatraz 11/06/10
Dartmouth alumni and guests made history as they mounted Shakespeare’s Hamlet on Alcatraz Island!
A production of Hamlet by William Shakespeare opened this fall, and fully inhabits “the Rock”. Our Dartmouth audience had unprecedented opportunities to enter parts of the island ordinarily closed to visitors. In addition, Dartmouth visitors encountered performance environments throughout the island that enhanced their experience of the space and its history and provoked contemplation of project themes.
After the performance, Dartmouth alumni and their guests went behind the scenes—really!—to meet the cast and crew, and enjoy a talk by the creator and artistic director. It was a lovely day and a unique theatrical experience in an extraordinary venue.
