Private VIP Tour And Tasting At Hanzell Winery And Estate Vineyards 10/23/11
Dartmouth alumni and their guests were lead through the Ambassador's 1953 Vineyard, the 1976 de Brye Vineyard, and the recently planted 2001 Ramos Vineyard by renowned viniculturist, sommelier, and restaurateur Matt Straus of Heirloom Cafe. Attendees learned about Grand Cru farming practices, as well as the contribution local terroir—the complete natural environment in which a particular wine is produced, including factors such as the soil, topography, and climate—makes to wine quality. Following the discussion, attendees walked through the historic heritage winery building, the new state-of-the-art winery, and a barrel-aging cave. A seated tasting of the current release of Hanzell Vineyard's Chardonnay and Pinot Noir concluded the visit.
